Engineer Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling) works as a test pilot for jets and rocket airplanes in the early 1960s and has a loving family behind him with his wife Janet (Claire Foy) and their two children Rick (Gavin Warren) and Karen (Lucy Stafford). that strengthens his back. His whole life changes, however, when his daughter dies of a brain tumor and the family is looking for a change. This presents itself as NASA is looking for a lunar program for engineers with engineering knowledge. Neil takes the opportunity and moves with his family to Houston, where he begins an astronaut training. After a lot of hardships and test flights, the professional engineer struggles to the top and will soon be sent to the moon together with Buzz Aldrin (Corey Stoll) and Mike Collins (Lukas Haas) with the Apollo 11 mission.
