Shortly before the start of the 2003 Iraq war, Katharine Gun (Keira Knightley), a translator for British intelligence, receives a shocking NSA memo claiming that members of the United Nations Security Council should be blackmailed to invade Iraq to vote. Since Gun does not want to participate in a war instigated under false pretenses, she passes on the information to the press. She is finally arrested by her government as a traitor. As the newspaper reporter Martin Bright (Matt Smith) takes on the story, suddenly he is in mortal danger.
