Shortly before the start of the 2003 Iraq war, Katharine Gun (Keira Knightley), a translator for British intelligence, receives a shocking NSA memo claiming that members of the United Nations Security Council should be blackmailed to invade Iraq to vote. Since Gun does not want to participate in a war instigated under false pretenses, she passes on the information to the press. She is finally arrested by her government as a traitor. As the newspaper reporter Martin Bright (Matt Smith) takes on the story, suddenly he is in mortal danger. The pressure is constantly growing, so Guns Kurdish man Yasar (Adam Bakri) threatens the deportation. Katherine’s Last Hope: Human Rights Attorney Ben Emmerson (Ralph Fiennes).
