1880: Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) went through the tests of thousands of designs when he finally knew how to make a marketable light bulb. While Edison received financial support from J.P. Morgan (Matthew Macfayden) backs up to supply electrical light to five blocks in Manhattan, George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) realizes the limits of the new technology. The Pittsburgh businessman works with AC instead of DC and takes over some of Edison’s discoveries. A competition comes to a head: on the one hand the humble, publicly shy Westinghouse, who is loyal to his wife Marguerite (Katherine Waterston) – on the other hand Edison, who considers himself a genius, does not want to share the appreciation for his work and his wife Mary (Tuppence Middleton) and the children neglected …
